2010 - Important!
2010 Fairgrounds Schedule

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2010

The following rules have been added for the 2009 Shiawassee County Fair. Exhibitors showing a Market Steer (Beef or Dairy) or a Market Goat must comply with the following rules in order to exhibit at the Fair.
Please call the Fair Office if you have any questions.

Market Steers:

All steers must be recorded and tagged with the official Shiawassee County Fair tag by the Beef Superintendents (or authorized agents) of the department on the dates scheduled by the Superintendent, but no later than February 15th of the year in which they will be shown. Tagging dates for 2010 are January 23rd and January 30th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. If either day is cancelled due to inclement weather, the backup date will be February 6th. Each exhibitor may enroll up to three (3) steers to allow for two backup steers. Families may enroll steers as family projects with all children’s names on each animal. Steers that have not been recorded by February 15th will not be eligible to be shown.

Please notify all prospective steer exhibitors so that no one will be missed. Steers do not necessarily need to be halter broke – chutes and gates will be available to safely handle the animals at the fairgrounds. An intranasal vaccine (TSV2) to aid in the prevention of respiratory infections will be available for the steers at no cost to the exhibitors on the day that they are tagged.

Market Goats:

All Market Goats must be tagged, weighed and identified on May 15th at the Fairgrounds (from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon) by the Goat Superintendents in order to show in the Market Goat Class and sell in the Small Animal Sale. All Market Goats must sell in the sale. Market goat exhibitors will be asked to provide weight of gain documentation for their project; the record books will be available on the 15th of May.
Contact club leaders or a Superintendent in the Goat Department for more information.

Please notify all goat exhibitors of this rule as market goats that are not tagged will not be eligible to show at the Shiawassee County Fair in 2009.

Amateur Advertising Contest

The contest was a success in 2009 with four terrific advertising signs entered.
New Rules and dates are currently under consideration.
We're working toward a bigger and better contest for 2010.

Can you picture a bright and enticing billboard advertising your favorite county fair traveling the roads in the back of a truck?  You can make it happen!  We are looking for creative, enthusiastic clubs (4-H, FFA, Scouts, Church Youth Groups, etc.) or individuals from Shiawassee County with a competitive spirit.  The Fair will provide the framework and the billboard –you or your group will design and execute the artwork on the billboard.  The winners will support the Fair AND win interesting prizes!

Contest rules:

1) The Fair will provide the truck-worthy framework and billboard; size to be determined by the Fair committee.

2) The sign must a) include the Fair dates, b)  promote the Shiawassee County Fair, c) have a 3 1/2” border to allow for mounting in the framework without covering the design and d) be sturdy enough to safely withstand traveling in the open back of a pickup truck for two weeks!

3) Drawings of your design are due in the Fair Office by May 15, 2009.  The best 10 designs will be chosen by the Fair committee and those 10 entrants will be notified within one week that they have been chosen to complete their billboards for the final competition.  At that time the final 10 competitors will receive their billboards for completion.

4) Signs will be the property of the Shiawassee County Fair.  The Fair committee will schedule the transportation of the signs (yes, YOU could be lucky enough to promote the Fair from the back of your truck!).  The signs will be displayed on the grounds during fair week.
