IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2012 Market Beef Animals - Tagging
All Market Beef Animals including Market Heifers must be recorded and tagged with the official Shiawassee County Fair tag by the Beef Superintendents (or authorized agents) of the department on the dates scheduled by the Superintendent, but no later than February 15th of the year in which they will be shown. Tagging dates for 2012 are January 21st and January 28th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. If either date is cancelled due to inclement weather, the backup date is February 4th. (No tagging will take place on the Feb. date if both January dates are used!) Each exhibitor may enroll up to three (3) animals to allow for two backup animals. Families may enroll market beef animals as family projects with all children's names on each animal. Please notify all prospective market beef animal exhibitors so that no one will be missed. Animals do not necessarily need to be halter broke - chutes and gates will be available to safely handle the animals at the fairgrounds. No preventative medications will be provided in 2012. If you wish to provide medication to guard against respiratory infections related to transporting your animals you will need to contact your veterinarian prior to the tagging dates and administer it prior to transporting your market animals to the Fairgrounds. Market Goats: All Market Goats must be tagged, weighed and identified on May 12th at the Fairgrounds (from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon) by the Goat Superintendents in order to show in the Market Goat Class and sell in the Small Animal Sale. All Market Goats must sell in the sale. Market goat exhibitors will be asked to provide weight of gain documentation for their project; the record books will be available on the 12th of May. Contact club leaders or a Superintendent in the Goat Department for more information. Please notify all goat exhibitors of this rule as market goats that are not tagged will not be eligible to show at the Shiawassee County Fair in 2012. |
